In 1872 a group of wealthy local people formed and financed a Company that, under the name of “Cartiera di Arsiero,” built a paper mill in Via Perale for the production of paper with paper machines.
In 1878, given the impossibility of selling it among the papermakers, the company was offered to Senator Alessandro Rossi fu Francesco di Schio, owner and director of the renowned wool mills, who advanced the necessary sum for the purchase to his eldest son Francesco. Francesco Rossi was thus the founder and organizer of the present company; his sons Alessandro and Girolamo flanked his intelligent and tenacious work. From the beginning, the Paper Mill aimed at research and development specifically in the production and processing of fine and very fine papers, excelling in their quality. Corporate developments over time led to the creation of Cartotecnica Rossi, which, for its part, can be called the mother of crepe paper.
Heir to a heritage of nearly 150 years of experience in the paper world, it began producing crepe paper back in the 1930s and, thanks to its success story, is now Europe's leading manufacturer and the benchmark for the production of the best and most flamboyant crepe and tissue papers on the market.
In the early 1900s papermaking reached 85,000 quintals per year while paperboard manufacture reached 15,000. Around 1950 the paper mill decided to take the path of maximum specialization. To this end, the most modern paper machines were modified and upgraded along with the entire paper preparation and finishing department.
